We’ve just returned from an unforgettable journey to Malawi, where we had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible impact of our projects. In August 2023, our Ampelos Luxembourg team was warmly welcomed by the local community and our dedicated partner, Father Kimu, a cornerstone of many development initiatives in the area.

One of our most meaningful visits was to the St. John Girls’ Secondary School and Saint John Nursery School. The nursery school, which cares for 400 children from the poorest families, provides them with education and two meals daily, completely free of charge. We were thrilled to see how our biogas project is transforming lives here. Thanks to this sustainable solution, the women working at the school are no longer exposed to unhealthy conditions, and the school is saving precious resources by reducing its need for wood.

Our team was also excited to kick off new pilot projects aimed at improving Tilapia breeding at the school. With 11 ponds on site, we are experimenting with integrated fish-duck farming, introducing catfish in one pond, and testing cage breeding in another. These initiatives are designed to produce larger Tilapias, which will enhance the protein content in the students' meals, ensuring they are better nourished.

But our contributions didn’t stop there. Marco, one of our team members, spent time in the kitchen with Christina, the school cook, teaching her how to make cheese and ricotta. This new skill will allow Christina to make the most of the whey left over from cheese production, reducing waste and adding variety to the school’s meals.

We also rolled up our sleeves to help with local nutrition initiatives. Together with the community, we baked protein biscuits for malnourished children and prepared nutritious meals using fresh papayas, demonstrating our commitment to fighting malnutrition with innovative, practical solutions.

Our time in Malawi was as inspiring as it was productive. We left with our hearts full, ready to continue our mission of changing the world, one step at a time, one project at a time. We can’t wait to see how these initiatives continue to grow and transform lives in the months and years ahead.
