Solar Energy Project at St John's Secondary School - Mangochi, Malawi - Fund raising with the Lions Club Luxembourg
Ampelos ASBL, in partnership with the Lions Club Luxembourg International (LCLI), is launching a fundraising campaign to bring solar electrification to Mangochi, Malawi.
Ampelos members have previously visited St John’s Secondary School, building strong ties with the community. Ongoing collaboration with Father Kimu is vital to ensure the project’s success — once funding is secured.
Project plan (pending funding):
- Install a 10 kW solar field with 20 panels.
- Equip the site with a hybrid system: inverter, lithium batteries, and backup generator.
- Power St John’s Secondary School, a local church, several homes, and a water pump.
- Total estimated cost: €30,000 — to be fully covered by donations.
Expected impact:
Once funded and implemented, over 1,200 people will gain access to reliable electricity and improved learning conditions.
In parallel, Ampelos has also already assisted with the installation of Starlink satellite internet at St John’s Secondary School. Thanks to the solar power and battery system, the internet infrastructure will evenutally run continuously, giving students and teachers 24/7 access to high‑speed connectivity and globally available content on campus.
